More on implantology
Implantology is the dental discipline of implanting artificial tooth roots called dental implants into the jawbone. In many cases, implantology is an excellent alternative to replacing lost teeth or having to be extracted by your dentist.
One of the many benefits of the dental implant is to permanently and aesthetically replace a missing tooth without having to grind and damage adjacent teeth to make a bridge. Our dental center in Ferney Voltaire, of course, has the necessary skills for the installation of dental implants at an affordable price.
Dental implants have proven themselves. Today, tens of millions of dental implants are placed every year to replace one or more dental roots in the mouth of millions of patients around the world.
An implant is an "artificial tooth root" that is inserted surgically into the jawbone. After a period of osseointegration, the dental implant will be fully integrated with the jaw bone supporting all types of dental prosthetics: bridges, crowns, dentures ... As a rule, prosthetics on implants are the best solution for replacement of missing teeth.
Dental implants are screwed into the jawbone by an implantologist or a licensed dentist under local anesthesia. After a consolidation period that may take several months, the final laboratory work is attached to the body of the implant. Of course, during the osseointegration phase, for aesthetic reasons, temporary teeth will be provided.
Dental implants and bone mass
To firmly and permanently anchor your implant in the jaw, your dentist must make sure you have enough bone. In the event that the quality or the quantity of your bone is not sufficient, the Dental Center of Ferney Voltaire will be able to introduce artificial BioOs in order to increase your bone mass before the installation of the dental implants.
Once firmly anchored in the bone, the implant will function as a natural tooth root. A dental crown, a bridge or a removable dental denture can then be fixed on these implants. After a few months, patients with dental implants completely forget their presence and no longer distinguish between their natural teeth and those placed on implants.
