Conduct of Invisalign® Orthodontic treatment
1 Evaluation
The first stage is, of course, to come and see us at 26 Avenue Voltaire! Your dentist will then carry out a first evaluation with the aim of confirming whether Invisalign® is the appropriate orthodontic solution for you. You can take advantage of this consultation to get all the answers to your questions about your orthodontic treatment (regarding the cost, duration etc.).
X-rays
Before envisaging any orthodontic treatment, we need to make sure that your mouth is healthy, that your teeth are correctly anchored in your jaw and that you don’t have any loose teeth, bone loss or cavities. Before envisaging the orthodontic treatment, we need to make your mouth healthy and treat any dental problems you might have.
A panoramic cephalometric X-ray is necessary to carry out this diagnosis. Our dental clinic in Ferney has a panoramic X-ray machine on-site, as well as a 3-D scanner, so you can have these X-rays done on-site without having to make an appointment at a medical imaging centre. As well as checking the general health of your mouth, this X-ray will also allow your dentist to see the precise positioning of your roots.
2 INVISALIGN® - CONDUCT OF INVISALIGN® ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Our Ferney Voltaire Dental Center is equipped with the most highly-evolved and most precise digital imprinting technology available on the market. This optical scanner allows your orthodontist to take detailed digital imprints of each of your teeth and of the whole of your dental arch.
We obtain a three-dimensional digital image of your jaw and your teeth which will be used as a starting point for planning your orthodontic treatment. In collaboration with Invisalign®, our dentists will use this digital image to simulate and visualise the end result following your Invisalign® orthodontic treatment.
3 Elaboration of orthodontic treatment
Once all your vital information has been collected, your dentist will discuss your case with the Invisalign® teams. A programme of personalised care will be drawn up according to various factors, such as: your current dentition, the envisaged end result, your age etc. Once your dentist has approved the treatment model, it will be presented to you and your aligners (transparent plastic gutters) will be produced. The number of aligners will depend on the complexity of your treatment plan.
4 Orthodontic treatment
It is important to wear your transparent gutters (aligners) for between 20 and 22 hours every day. Your orthodontist will only give you a few gutters at one time and will see you every six to eight weeks in order to check progress and to give you the next set of aligners. Usually, this is a quick routine appointment allowing us to check that everything is going as planned, but some little adjustments may be necessary.
5 Orthodontic retainers
Once your Invisalign® treatment is finished, you will receive some fixed and removable retainers. Your dentist will mount a fixed, discreet retention device behind your teeth which will keep them permanently in place. At the same time, we will take an impression so that we can make a removable retention gutter very similar to your Invisalign® aligners which you will only have to wear periodically at night.
